Wadmalaw Island is a beautiful small island that offers a country setting for a family vacation.
Wadmalaw Island, SC is just 30 minutes away from Charleston, by taking Highway 17 South to Highway 700 at Rockville.
There are several places you and your family can stay for a visit and restaurants that can please just about anyone.
One of the exciting places you may want to visit is the Charleston Tea Plantation.
The Charleston Tea Plantation was established some 30 years ago.
It is the only working tea plantation in North America.
You can take a free trolley ride around the plantation and actually see how many different types of tea are processed, and at the gift shop you will have the chance to sample some of the American Classic Tea.
My family loves ice tea as much or more than sodas. Our family meals always include sweet ice tea.
Every year the plantation hosts a “First Flush Festival”, which is the purest harvest of the season and is held around May 15.
You may wish to visit at this time of the year to enjoy the fresh harvest.
The festival is packed full of venders selling all sorts of foods, arts and crafts booths that sell everything from quilts to wood work, and different types of tea.
There are plenty of tables and tents that you can eat at. There are live bands to listen to and amusements for the children.
You can even be shuttled from the parking area to the festival.
You may want to take your family to the “Flushing Festival” and enjoy the wonderful activities and of course the tasty teas.
My family is already making plans to visit Wadmalaw Island next May for this exciting adventure.
